Lu's Birthday 2019

Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will host a special celebration for Lu the Hippopotamus’ 60th birthday at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at 9225 W. Fishbowl Drive, Homosassa Springs. Attend to enjoy all-natural ice pops provided by The Hyppo, while supplies last. Children from the local elementary school will join visitors at the park in singing “Happy Birthday” to Lu. Park staff will present Lu with his specially-made birthday cake.

Attend a charity ball

The Knights of Columbus Assembly 1547 will host its 50th Anniversary Charity Ball from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Citrus Springs Golf and Country Club, 509 N. Hartford St., Hernando. Dinner begins at 6:30. Proceeds will benefit the Citrus County Veterans Coalition, Citrus County First Responder Dependent Children College Scholarships and Citrus County Fallen Officer Memorial fund. There will be music, a large silent auction, raffle prizes and a cash bar. Tickets are $40 each. 

Attend a Father-Daughter dance

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office will host its second annual “My Dance with Dad” event from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Citrus Springs Community Center, 1570 W. Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs. This dance is geared toward building the bonds between fathers, father figures and their daughters, with all proceeds going to Jessie’s Place, Citrus County Children’s Advocacy Center. There will be live entertainment, a photo booth, professional photographer, snacks and more. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased by visiting tinyurl.com/ufux9xq.
