With all the restrictions and cancellations looming for the tricks and treats that go along with Halloween due to the COVID-19 virus, the Citrus Abuse Shelter Association (CASA) has decided it won’t let it go by without having some fun.

CASA will give the community a way to embrace the Halloween spirit with a spooky little treat for all your favorite monsters to be a part of and enjoy. An added plus, CASA officials say, is you will also support your local domestic violence shelter during October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness month.

Starting Monday, Sept. 21, individuals and businesses can call CASA and place an order for Halloween “BOO” bags (donation $25 per bag). The “BOO” bag will be assembled by CASA associates and filled with Halloween treats and trinkets for you to “BOO” your family, friends and neighbors. It’s even a great way to give a special gift of recognition to a teacher, coworker, or an essential worker, CASA officials said.

The idea is to leave it on their doorstep or workspace as an anonymous surprise. Attached will be a tag, telling them they have been BOO’D. It will explain that you donated $25 to CASA to receive your bag and encourage them to do the same and keep the spooky surprise going.

“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, gathering for annual fundraisers is just not an option right now,” CASA CEO Sunshine Arnold said. “The thought that Halloween will look very different for children and families this year has been on my mind, too. We thought this would be a cute way to keep the Halloween spirit going while keeping everyone safe. Our community can have fun surprising a friend with Halloween treats and support domestic violence survivors at the same time.”

Many in the community have already donated to CASA to help support survivors, and there are not enough words to express how much that is appreciated, Arnold said.

“We hope that you will participate and continue to support our cause by ‘BOO”ing’ your favorite ghouls and ghosts and asking them to BOO theirs too,” Arnold said. “This is the perfect way to support CASA while keeping the fun in Halloween 2020. The best part is, CASA does all the work!”

To place your order, call 352-344-8111 and ask for Angie Arnold or April Renfro or email Pick-up for the bags will begin Monday, Oct. 5. Spread the word by taking a picture of your BOO bag and posting it to social media with the hashtag #BOOagainstDV and tag your friends to get their “BOO” bags from CASA during the month of October too.
