Commissioner Scott Carnahan takes oath of office

County Commission Chairman Scott Carnahan said Tuesday he’s likely going to seek re-election next year to a third term.

“I feel I’ve got more left in me,” Carnahan said during an interview in which a reporter asked if he has re-election plans. “I think I bring a good common sense approach to the board.”

Carnahan had planned to leave office after his second term runs out in 2022.

“I said I would do eight years and then the phone calls started coming in, ‘You need to stay. You need to go four more years,’” he said.

Carnahan said he wouldn’t expect a formal announcement until February 2022.

“I’m going to wait and see,” he said. “If somebody I see can carry the torch, I’ll say go ahead.”
