Honest Appliance Repair

Many businesses continue to struggle as the coronavirus pandemic sweeps across Florida and Citrus County.

Roger Channell, owner of Honest Appliance Repair, is no exception.

Before the virus, the 65-year-old repairman with 33 years of appliance repair experience would get at least half a dozen calls a day from customers with broken stoves, washing machines, or dish washers. Now he’s lucky if he gets one or two.

Channell operates the business out of his home and is its only employee.

He wants potential customers to know that he takes extensive safety precautions because of the virus, including repeatedly washing his hands and wearing a mask regardless of whether his customers ask him.

Because he is a one-man operation, and because his wife is on unemployment after she lost her job, Channell thinks he can better identify with his customers who are also on a tight budget.

“I can offer personalized service and care,” he told the Chronicle, which is offering local businesses free advertising to get their messages out. “I’m a consumer too and I don’t want to be gouged either.”

He said he talks to customers who are economically hurting because of the virus and can identify with them.

“A lots of people lost their jobs and I can appreciate that. A lot of people are hurting. It really pulls at your heartstrings,” he said.

“I like to think that I’m a little more compassionate. I care about my customers,” he said.

As a result, Channell said he often tries to work with customers in order to do repairs that can’t wait and holds off on those that can.

And if the appliance breaks again because of something he’s done wrong or failed to do he will come back and fix it at no charge, he said.

In addition, Channell he also tries to work around the customer’s work schedule, which often means arriving well past normal working hours. But he said he is willing to do that considering the financial difficulties his customers are struggling with to make ends meet.

He also doesn’t want his customers to get sick or risk passing on the virus if ever he were to get infected with the virus.

“I really care about my customers,” he said.
