The Homosassa River Angels will host a dedication ceremony for the Halls River Bridge, a landmark achievement and the first of its kind in the United States, 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Halls River Bridge on County Road 490-A in Homosassa. The bridge will be dedicated in honor of James C. Bitter, a veteran of the Korean War and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also a local icon in Citrus County for his leadership role in his community, government issues, education, preservation and protection of our environment. According to FDOT, the recently completed Halls River Bridge in Citrus County is the first of its kind in the United States. The project began over 2 1/2 years ago using advanced technology materials of hybrid beams of glass and concrete polymers to make the bridge rust resistant with a life expectancy of 135 to 150 years.
