Emergency crews airlifted a Beverly Hills man and woman after a vehicle struck the couple while they were walking along U.S. 19 near Homosassa.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), which didn’t identify those involved in the 12:55 p.m. crash from Friday, Sept. 24, a 36-year-old Lecanto man was driving a silver Honda Accord south on the highway’s outside lane, south of South Oakridge Drive.
He told FHP troopers he looked to his left to watch something in the median, allowing his car to drift toward a 30-year-old man and 33-year-old woman walking south on the highway’s shoulder, and then collide with the couple at an estimated speed of 55 mph, according to FHP.
Nature Coast EMS transported the wounded pedestrians to be flown out by helicopter to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point for treatment of incapacitating injuries.
Charges are pending, according to FHP.
