A far cry from the past, your health records may already be in your hands.

Bayfront Health hospitals, including Bayfront Health Seven Rivers, is now enrolled in Apple’s Health app, available on Apple mobile devices. That means Bayfront Health patients can access their medical records by simply logging into the app.

Bayfront Health is among several health care providers who now offer the information at their fingertips.

“We’re excited to offer our patients this convenient access to their health record,” said Linda Stockton, chief executive officer of Bayfront Health Seven Rivers. “Apple offers a secure platform that people trust and it’s great to have a new resource to connect patients with their data.”

The app also organizes the user’s health information into such categories as allergies, clinical vital signs, medical conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications and medical procedures.

Other area heath care organizations that also use the app include Advent Health hospitals, Moffitt Cancer Center, University of South Florida Care, Tampa General Hospital, Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center and its physicians groups, Shands satellite facilities and Tenet Health.

Onscreen instructions allow users to see a list of area participating health care facilities and offices. Users can also perform a by-name search on their smartphones.

The Health app also is compatible with other health monitoring equipment such as heart-rate monitoring wrist bands, step counters and blood-sugar monitors.

Bayfront Health Seven Rivers spokesman Tom Hyle said Bayfront Health Seven Rivers has had a partnership with the Apple app for the past couple of weeks.

Hyle said the new technology is a big improvement in offering hospital patients options in getting their medical records.

“Previously, patients’ medical records were held in multiple locations, requiring patients to log into each care provider’s website and piece together the information manually,” Hyle wrote the Chronicle. “Apple worked with the health care community to take a consumer-friendly approach."

It was a natural step for Bayfront Health Seven Rivers to join the Apple app, he said.

“Now, patients will have medical information from participating institutions organized into one view and can receive notifications when their data is updated,” Hyle said. “Health Records data is encrypted and protected with the user’s iPhone passcode, Touch ID or Face ID.”

Bayfront Health Seven Rivers patients can also access their health information directly via their hospital and physician group portals at https://sevenriversregional.myhealthhome.com. Through CareNotify, hospital discharge summaries, diagnostic imaging and lab results are available. The physician group portal makes medical records, medications, and other outpatient information available.
