Learn how to build and install an effective bat house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7 at Fort Cooper State Park, 3100 S. Old Floral City Road, Inverness. Park entrance fee is $3 per vehicle and bat house kits are $50 each. Participants will build their bat house with the guidance of an instructor and take it home. Stay updated on driving education

Florida is a mandated state and any insurance company doing business in Florida must give a discount to those completing an AARP Smart Driver Course, open to all aged 50 and older. Contact your agent for discount amounts. Update yourself to earn a discount and get newly enacted motor vehicle and traffic laws. Course fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for all others.

Dulcimer Players host Christmas concerts

The Nature Coast Dulcimer Players will be performing several Christmas concerts throughout December. They will play a mix of traditional carols, Christmas tunes and old-time dulcimer favorites. Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast is offering a “Surviving the Holidays” workshop/memorial for anyone who has experienced a loss and would like to discover new reasons to enjoy the holidays again. Attend a bat viewing in Dec.

Breakfast fundraiser supports dance

Support dance students at a breakfast fundraiser, hosted by the Citrus Academy of Dance Arts, from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Inverness Applebee’s, 1901 W. Participate in Christmas Bird Counts

Hernando Audubon Society is hosting two Christmas bird counts. Every year, volunteers count birds within designated areas, providing important data to assess the health of bird populations and to help guide conservation action. The bird counts will be conducted on the following dates:

Relocation of Recycling Locations

Citrus County Solid Waste has relocated and consolidated recycling bins at the Citrus County Fairgrounds and Animal Services. The Citrus County Fair Association Board has requested a relocation of the four recycle containers located at 3600 S. Florida Ave, Inverness, due to upgrades at fairground main gate entrance. The recycling containers located at Citrus County Animal Services Shelter, 4030 S. Airport Road, Inverness, will be moved to the new location. The new location of the recycling bin will be the north corner of the fairgrounds parking lot, adjacent to U.S. Highway 41 and Airport Road, Inverness. Information: 352-527-7670.

Inverness Sertoma needs used hearing aids

The Inverness Sertoma Club has drop off canisters at local establishments in the area for donations of used hearing aids. Donated hearing aids will be cleaned, tested and refurbished for someone that can’t afford to purchase new hearing aids. This past May, there were 38 pairs of hearing aids collected. 

Drop off canisters are at:

  • Dad & Lad Barbershop, next to Sportsman Bowling Lane on U.S. 41, Inverness; 

  • Gracies Goodies, 9940 E. Gulf-to-Lake Highway Inverness; and

  • Touch of Glass by Susan, 6040 S. Florida Ave., Floral City.
