An argument between an elderly Crystal River mother and her inebriated daughter lead to the younger woman’s arrest and facing charges of battery on a person over 65.
Sheila Cossairt, 76, told Citrus County deputies that she and her daughter, Valerie Lynn Adams, got into an argument in the home’s kitchen over Adam’s drinking and late night hours, according to arrest records.
The argument soon escalated Wednesday and Cossairt told deputies that Adams pushed her and that she fell, hitting her head on the kitchen countertop. Cossairt told deputies the two fought and that Adams, 55, of 9620 W. Midland Lane, Crystal River, pushed her to the ground a total of four times, according to arrest reports.
Investigating deputies reported seeing blood and scratches on one of Cossairt’s arms, bruising on the other, and a large red abrasion on her back from falling against the kitchen’s trash can. Some of the kitchen cabinets also had fresh blood smeared across them.
The investigating deputy said he didn’t get far talking with Adams.
The deputy said he immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol on Adams when he arrived at the home.
“I was unable to have a conversation with her due to her slurring her words and her being unable to form coherent sentences,” the deputy wrote in the arrest documents.
Deputies arrested Adams and charged her with battery on a person older than 65 years old.
