Sheriff Mike Prendergast forced the resignation of a deputy who is a candidate for office, basing the decision on a state law that he learned afterward doesn’t apply, according to interviews and records.

Candidates for property appraiser met with the Chronicle editorial board Tuesday, June 16. All four are Republicans and the winner of the primary will face off against Richard A. “Rick” Schroeder, a no-party-affiliation candidate - in the November general election.
