Haley Campbell, a Crystal River High School junior, was elected governor at the 73rd session of Girls State.
Girls State was held June 5-13 at Florida State University in Tallahassee. The citizens of Girls State, comprised of 300 girls from all counties in Florida, elect their own governor, cabinet and other officials.
Five other Citrus County students went to Girls State this summer, sponsored by Blanton-Thompson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 155. Hannah Wilson of Lecanto High School was elected lieutenant governor and Kiah Frink of Lecanto High School became a page and city planner. Elected as representatives were Billie Allnutt of LHS and Abby Sorenson of CRHS.
