Detectives with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office are looking into the source of packaged fireworks and a note found Friday morning outside a state wildlife agency’s local building.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) discovered and reported the suspicious package on the lot of its field office off of U.S. 19, south of the Cross Florida Barge Canal.

Sheriff’s deputies and its Hazardous Devices Team were able to remove the box of mortar fireworks, which weren’t triggered to detonate, according to the sheriff’s office.

A handwritten note was also taken into evidence; its contents were not shared due to the sheriff’s open investigation. No injuries or property damages were reported.
