A medical examiner has yet to release an identity or a cause of death for a set of skeletal remains discovered by walker the afternoon of Sept. 8 on the waters edge near the Woodland Estates community in Crystal River.
Medical examiner confirms death as homicide by gunshot
Marquel Rayquan Murray’s death was ruled by the medical examiner’s office to be a homicide by firearm.
Sheriff’s office deputies found the Citrus County 20-year-old at around 1 a.m. Sept. 9, suffering from a gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of a white pickup truck parked in woods near the intersection of North Alabaster Drive and East Dearborn Drive in Hernando.
Deputies, who were responding to what was originally reported as a vehicle crash, tried to revive Murray, who was unconscious but later declared him dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s office detectives deemed the shooting to be isolated in nature, but, citing the open case, would not comment on if there’s a possible suspect.
