A 49-year-old Inverness man was arrested after a minor disclosed he was having sexual relations with her, according to a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit.

Arthur Van Dyke was arrested and charged with sexual battery familial or custodial authority on a person under 18. Bond was set at $10,000.

On Sept. 11, CCSO received a complaint where a child alleged Van Dyke had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions while she was staying at his Inverness residence.

She said the most recent incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 11 and was subsequently scheduled for a forensic interview and medical exam.

According to the report, the victim also disclosed information about an incident on Sept. 10 during a forensic interview. She stayed after school to assist with an extracurricular activity and then was driven by her mother to go out with friends.

It was reportedly arranged that the victim would spend the night at Van Dyke’s house. Van Dyke picked up her and her friend and took them home.

According to the report, Van Dyke woke up the victim, told her to take a shower and come to his bedroom unclothed. She alleged Van Dyke proceeded to perform sexual intercourse with her in his bedroom. Afterward, she vomited in the bathroom.

Van Dyke reportedly told the child to take another shower before going to sleep.

On Sept. 11, the victim was out with friends again and this time, three of them planned to stay over at Van Dyke’s home.

In the bathroom of the home, the victim reportedly told her friend Van Dyke might want to have sex with her. She said they had been having sex for a while and she was used to it.

This friend became afraid, called someone to pick her up and told Van Dyke she was leaving. When driver arrived at the home, they pulled the victim into to car along with her friend.

At this time, Van Dyke reportedly followed the vehicle on his motorcycle while the driver was on the phone with the CCSO. Upon their arrival at Circle K in Inverness, they were met by deputies.

When deputies asked Van Dyke why he was following the car, he alleged the victim was his responsibility since she was allowed to stay at his home for the night.

During the forensic interview, the victim reportedly said she began having sexual relations with Van Dyke since a week or two before the beginning of school. She said it occurred multiple times every weekend when she stayed the night and sometimes multiple times per night.

Each time Van Dyke reportedly had sexual relations with the victim, he would have her take a shower before and afterward. He also provided her with marijuana in an effort to get her under the influence.

Van Dyke also reportedly placed a crutch against the bedroom door to prevent anyone from entering.

Deputies contacted Van Dyke who reportedly disclosed information that corroborated with the victim’s statement. He also said he had custodial responsibility for her when she visited his residence.

Van Dyke was placed under arrest and transported to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office for booking and processing.
