Deputies arrested a Homosassa man for stealing a truck and selling it while its real owner was in jail.
Daniel Paul Ott, 47, was arrested Monday on charges of grand theft auto, trafficking in stolen property and fraudulently using a vehicle title.
Ott was charged while at the Citrus County Detention Facility, where he was booked earlier that morning after sheriff’s deputies found him with a methamphetamine-covered container during a traffic stop in Homosassa, according to arrest reports.
The sheriff’s office alleges Ott stole a 1977 white GMC pickup truck while its owner was in prison and when he was re-incarcerated at the county jail. According to the report, Ott signed his name on the vehicle’s title in February 2018, gifting it to himself, before selling it last October to a person from Brooksville.
Ott’s bond was set at $9,000 for the truck theft, and $1,000 for possessing drug paraphernalia.
