Citrus County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating a shooting from last week in Lecanto that left a vehicle riddled with bullet holes and a girl injured.

Nature Coast EMS transported the juvenile, whose identity is being withheld by the sheriff’s office (CCSO), to a Hudson hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to her left arm, according to a CCSO case report obtained Monday.

At around 8 p.m. on July 3, CCSO deputies were dispatched to the shooting, which occurred on a dirt road off of South Kirk Point.

According to the report and the sheriff’s office, the girl and a 22-year-old man from Homosassa were riding in a white Ford F-150 together when the shots were fired, striking the truck’s rear and cab multiple times.

Deputies found shell casings on the ground next to the roadway, and used K9s to track down potential suspects.

Those with information about the shooting can call CCSO’s nonemergency number at 352-726-1121 and ask for its Major Crimes Unit.

Tipsters can also remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward by calling into Citrus County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-269-8477.
