A Homosassa man who allegedly stole a vehicle Sunday, Sept. 4, at a Marion County convenience store on County Road 484 and led law enforcement authorities on a short pursuit into Citrus County, before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to flee on foot, was apprehended, according to a Citrus County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
Joshua Lea Fleming, 34, was charged with grand theft auto and resisting a law enforcement office, said Brittney Carman. Fleming will have to face charges in Citrus first then be brought to Marion County to face pending charges, according to a MCSO spokesman.
After Fleming ditched the vehicle in the area of West Dunnellon Road and North Riverbend Road, CCSO sent an alert to residents in the area alerting them to the presence of an “armed suspect in the area.”
Authorities did not recover a firearm, Carman told the Chronicle late Sunday evening. According to the Florida Department of Corrections website, Fleming was convicted of burglary of unoccupied dwelling in July 2019, having been sentenced to two years in prison. He was released from state custody in May 2021.
