Six people in Citrus County have now died from COVID-19, according to an evening update Thursday, April 9, from the Florida Department of Health (FDOH). FDOH reports the sixth death is a 73-year-old female with known contact to a confirmed case.

The county currently has 58 positive cases of COVID-19, coronavirus.

All 58 — 28 men and 30 women — are county residents. 

As of 7:28 p.m., 27 cases were reported in Inverness, eight in Crystal River, six in Lecanto, five in Hernando, three in Homosassa, three in Dunnellon (Citrus), three in Beverly Hills, two in Citrus Springs and one in Floral City.

Eighteen have been hospitalized from the disease. Five tests are pending

According to the DOH, the Hospitalizations figures include residents and non-residents and is a count of all laboratory confirmed cases in which an inpatient hospitalization occurred at any time during the course of illness.

These people may no longer be hospitalized. This number does not represent the number of COVID-19 positive persons currently hospitalized. "We do not have a figure for that information at this time," the DOH stated on its website.

There have been 16,826 positive tests and 371 deaths in Florida.
