Crafts for a cause

Wendy Hallett, right, gets a little help from her friend Karen Sager in picking out some doggy biscuits for “Hank the hound dog” from K and D’s Gourmet Pet Creations at the 2018 Crystal River Women’s Club Arts and Crafts Show. The show has a decades-long history of raising funds for the Women’s Club, which gives to several Citrus County organizations including E-Nini-Hassee, Blessings in a Backpack and more.

Fall is here and it’s time once again for the GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club’s annual Arts and Craft show set from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

The show will be at the Woman’s Club at 320 N. Citrus Ave. in Crystal River.

Artists and crafters will be both inside the clubhouse and on the clubhouse grounds.

According to Holly Oder, chair of this event, this year they will have two different book authors on-hand selling their books during the event.

“Author Barbara Cairns who wrote ‘Cracker Cow’ and seven other books will have her books available for purchase,” Oder said.

“We will have another book author, Mike Petellat, who wrote ‘The Spirit of Crystal River,’ about the large boat sitting on the corner of North Citrus Avenue and Highway 19 in Crystal River, also in the show,” Oder said.

The show has 23-plus vendors signed up already, with possibly more being added.

“We have 14 new vendors this year offering a variety of different arts and craft items,” Oder said.

Some of the items in the show are decorative mason jar and wine bottle lights, three different wreath vendors, homemade greeting cards, jams and jellies, handmade soaps, sewing items such as fabric trees and fabric pumpkins, all different types of jewelry, quilted items and much more.

“One of the new jewelry creators is from Cedar Key who makes jewelry with beads and items purchased from around the world that is eco friendly — green from recycled materials purchased from people worldwide so they can feed and clothe their families,” Oder said.

These eco friendly pieces are called “Frog Cottage Jewelry.”

Members of the GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club will also host a booth with handmade Christmas items for sale.

This show is a Citrus County Chronicle sponsored event.

“Come out and enjoy the show and start your Christmas shopping with us,” Oder said.
