The 15th annual Citrus County Veterans Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 14, at the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club Course for the benefit of the Citrus County Veterans Foundation, Inc., featuring “Golf’s Greatest Entertainer,” Buddy Shelton, who is back by popular demand.
A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and Air Force veteran, Buddy qualified for Class A membership in the Professional Golfers Association and the PGA Tour in 1965, competing in the circuit until 1984. Today, he competes on the Celebrity Golf Tour and various Pro-Ams, and is highly respected among his peers for his skills and teaching abilities.
Buddy will conduct a demonstration of his trick shots prior to the tournament’s 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, play one hole with each tournament foursome and serve as the presenter for the tournament’s prizes during the luncheon. His golf knowledge and skills, combined with his humor, make the tournament a memorable event.
Check-in for the four-person scramble will be at 7:30 a.m. at the Pro Shop with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Individuals and groups short of four persons will be combined to make a team. You do not need to be a veteran to participate.
Registration form and donation of $65 per person must be received no later than Aug. T30. Each participant’s donation includes golf and cart, beverages on the course and lunch at the country club. The tournament features a Hole-in-One prize and door prizes. Charitable tax-deductible contributions for door prizes and hole sponsorships for $425, $325, $225 or $125 are greatly welcome.
Participating golfers should make their check or money order payable to Citrus County Veterans Foundation and send it with their registration form to J.J. Kenney (Tournament Chair), 17 Gloxinias Court, Homosassa, FL 34446 no later than Aug. 30.
The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity that provides urgent grant financial assistance to local honorably discharged veterans and their surviving spouses. Since the Foundation’s inception in 2004, over $350,000 has been provided.
