Gulf to Lake Pilot Club members recently made a contribution to the Child Passenger Safety Program at the Early Learning Coalition of the Nature Coast.

The Pilot Club has provided financial support since the program began to help protect children from injury in motor vehicle crashes. Donations help provide children with safe, new car seats.

The Pilot Club is a service organization with a focus of helping those with brain injuries and offering education to prevent brain injury. Children who ride in an appropriate car seat that is installed correctly have less risk of brain and spinal cord injury common in motor vehicle crashes (www.safekids.org).

With donations from organizations like the Gulf to Lakes Pilot Club, the Child Passenger Safety Program provides safe, new car seats and booster seats at low cost for families who are experiencing financial hardship.

This donation helps the program to provide education on correct use of child safety seats for all caregivers in the community at car seat check-up appointments. Local car seat inspections show that four out of five car seats have one or more installation error, and no car seat will protect a child if it is not used properly (www.safekids.org).

To schedule a car seat inspection or for more information on child safety seats, contact Sue Littnan at the Early Learning Coalition of the Nature Coast at 352-563-9939 ext. 235 or slittnan@elc-naturecoast.org.
