Knights donate to Key Training Center

Katie Lucas, hostess of the Key Training Center annual telethon July 27, applauds a gift of $1,000 from Knights of Columbus Council 6168 Grand Knight John Uva. The Key Training Center was one of seven Citrus County nonprofit organizations to receive gifts recently totaling more than $15,500 from Council 6168, bringing its charity donations for the year to $40,622.

Knights of Columbus Council 6168 gave $15,500 in cash gifts to seven nonprofit organizations in Citrus County as it concluded another fraternal year on June 30.

These monetary awards brought the total charitable donations by Council 6168 to $40,622 for the year, according to Grand Knight John Uva, and $285,685 over the last 10 years.

“Charity is our top priority as Knights of Columbus,” Uva said. “Thanks to hard work by the Knights and generosity of our fellow Citrus County residents, we were able to donate more than $40,000 for the third year in a row.”

The gifts included checks for $3,000 each to Families and Friends Reaching for the Abilities (FFRA), Inverness and Daystar Life Center, Crystal River; $2,500 each to the Pregnancy and Family Life Center of Citrus County, Inverness and Our Lady of Grace Church, Beverly Hills; $2,000 to the Family Resource Center, Hernando; $1,500 to the Boys and Girls Club of Citrus County, Lecanto; and $1,000 to Key Training Foundation Inc., Lecanto.

The council raised the money by running bingo games twice weekly, offering weekly dances and other social events, soliciting charitable donations for people with intellectual disabilities, sponsoring a golf tournament and conducting other fundraisers.

Uva especially thanked Walmart in Lecanto for permitting the Knights to stand at their doors to solicit donations from customers during the organization’s campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities.

As Grand Knight, Uva served as head of the council during the 2018-19 fraternal year, during which money for these donations was raised. Council 6168, the oldest and largest of six Knights of Columbus organization in the county, is associated with Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills; it meets in the Knights of Columbus hall along County Road 486 in Lecanto. New members and transfers are welcome.
