Mental health support available

The local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Citrus) offers in-person and virtual support groups from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the First Christian Church of Inverness, 2018 Colonade St.

Support groups are for persons living with a mental health condition and their families.

Support available for dementia caregivers

North Oak Church is offering group support for caregivers of dementia patients at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday monthly at the church, 9324 N. Elkcam Blvd. in Citrus Springs.

Caregiving is a difficult job and often goes unrewarded. Dementia has a unique set of difficulties and circumstances that can be helped by meeting with other caregivers who may be experiencing the same problems.

The group will be led by Bernie Collins, retired psychiatric nurse. No religious affiliation is needed to attend.

Join Grief Toolbox support group

Welcoming new and continuing attendees, the Grief Toolbox support group will start a new session of meetings from 2 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast Wings Grief Center, 8471 W. Periwinkle Lane in Homosassa.

Sponsored by Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, the group helps participants acquire the essential tools they need to deal with their grief through video presentations, handouts and group discussions.

Child loss grief group to meet

The Compassionate Friends will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays monthly at the Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast Wings Grief Center, 8471 W. Periwinkle Lane in Homosassa.

Parents, siblings and grandparents grieving the loss of a child at any age can find highly personal comfort, hope and support by attending meetings of The Compassionate Friends, an international self-help organization.

The Nature Coast chapter, sponsored by Hooper Funeral Home and Crematory, brings together individuals and families supporting one another in many ways.

Attend an ‘Understanding Grief’ support group

“Understanding Grief” support groups for the newly bereaved are offered at no cost by Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast. These groups, meet from from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays at the First Christian Church of Inverness, 2018 Colonade St. and from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays at the Wings Grief Center, 8471 W. Periwinkle Lane in Homosassa.

Support groups help members learn ways to discover hope and healing by focusing on the work of grief educator Alan D. Wolfelt, Ph.D.

Colorectal cancer support group

A new support group for colorectal cancer patients, families, caregivers and health care professionals will meet from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday at the Lakes Region Library, 1511 Druid Road in Inverness and from 6 to 6:45 p.m. every Wednesday at the Beverly Hills Public Library, 444 N. Rexford Drive.

Attendees will meet other patients and learn about resources for the management of colorectal cancer.

Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be provided. Masks and social distancing are recommended.

Weekly Grief Study Group available

Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast offers a Grief Study Group every Tuesday afternoon at the Wings Grief Center, 8471 W. Periwinkle Lane in Homosassa.

This is a faith-based study sponsored by North Citrus Christian Church which provides help for those experiencing “little deaths” in life as well as the loss of a loved one.

Zoom-based grief support will continue

Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast will continue their Zoom-based grief support group meetings from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays.
