The Floral City Library, located in Floral City’s Town Center, will become an Alzheimer’s Resource Center during Citrus Walk Aware for Alzheimer’s on Oct. 19. There, individuals attending the Walk will find information tables for a wide range of resources available to caregivers for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia in Citrus County, many of which are free.

Some of the resources and services will include Art from the Heart, a social program featuring art and music for caregivers and their loved ones offered monthly at the YMCA; Music in Medicine, a nonprofit that trains and certifies musicians to provide music therapy for people with illness; Nature Coast Therapy Dogs, an organization that offers animals certified to provide therapeutic companionship.

Organizations primarily offering educational services will include Coping with Dementia LLC, the Alzheimer’s Family Organization, the Citrus County Scent Kit Coalition and Dementia Education, Inc.

Providers of a range of support and services will include Key Elder Care and Abiding Love Personal Development Services, Inc.

The library will also have a table for literature, videos, and other information provided through the Citrus County Library System.

Debbie Selsavage, the principal organizer of the Walk, explains, “The primary purposes for Citrus Walk Aware for Alzheimer’s is to have fun and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Family Organization, but we must not forget that education, service, and support for caregivers is always central to our mission.”
