Jack King was named Knight of the Month for November by the St. Scholastica Knights of Columbus Council 14485 in Lecanto. Jack and his wife, Ida, moved to Citrus County from Miami, Florida in 2003. Being married for 28 years, they live in the Pine Ridge subdivision in Beverly Hills and have 3 children. Jack gives the credit for the quality of his life to the love and support from his wife.
Jack joined the St. Scholastica Knights Council in 2003. Since 2003, he has been Youth Activities Director for the Council. Jack has planned and implemented the Knights of Columbus’s sponsored annual events at Saint John Paul II Catholic School, such as the: Soccer Challenge, Free Throw Competition, Poster Contest, Essay Contest and Spelling Bee.
In 2015, Jack devised and implemented the St. John Paul II Scholarship Fund with the help of Brother Roger Preble. He also serves as Chancellor of the Council with the responsibilities of assisting the Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and serving as Chairman of the Admissions Committee. He is also responsible for encouraging members to become involved with Council Activities.
Jack has utilized his wood working skills in helping with Council projects, such as building a computer tech station for the computer lab at St. John Paul II Catholic School, creating a movable partition for Council awards and building access ramps for disabled citizens. Jack has previously received the Knight of the Month Award and Knight of the Year Award. Jack and Ida have also received the Family of the Month Award and the Family of the Year Award.
Jack has advanced to membership in the Patriotic (4th) degree in the Knights of Columbus and is a member of Father James Hoge Assembly 1547 in Lecanto. He is a member of the Color Corp of the Assembly. Jack is an usher and Chairman of the Church Safety Team at St. Scholastica Parish. For the past 9 years, Jack has volunteered on a weekly basis, providing maintenance and other services, as needed at Daystar Life Center. He also volunteers with the Citrus County Blessings when needed, delivering food and performing special projects.
Jack has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Florida International University. He was a police officer for 33 years with the Miami-Dade Police Department, of which 23 years were as a Homicide Investigator. Jack served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. He was stationed aboard the USS Lexington (CV-16) and was discharged as a Petty Officer Second Class. Jack enjoys wood working, gardening and cooking. Jack and Ida enjoy traveling in their motor-home. He is also an avid golfer, playing in two leagues.
