Teacher accused of affair with...

Mark Teter, 51, of Lecanto, is charged with sexual conduct for an alleged affair he and a student had during her senior year at Crystal River High School.

Teter, who taught English and Advanced Placement language at CRHS during his 15 years in Citrus County, resigned in August as school district authorities questioned him about the allegations.

A convicted felon is in custody following a weekend altercation in front of a Crystal River nightspot during which he was accused of firing shots near bystanders.

A Citrus Springs 12-year-old was struck by a vehicle on County Road 491 and injured late Saturday night.

Austin Prather, 12, received minor injuries in the incident and was taken for treatment to St. Joseph’s Hospital, according to a report from Florida Highway Patrol.

Citrus County School Board members face the unenviable task of deciding between the lesser of two evils.

The district has done an excellent job throughout the recession of anticipating funding problems and preparing for them without making cuts that impacted students in the classroom. This could change.

Thorpe not only one on way out

Brad Thorpe may not be the only high-level Citrus County official vacating the Courthouse.

Three others — County Attorney Richard Wesch, Assistant County Administrator Ken Frink and Public Information Officer Lindsay Ubinas — are awaiting calls for potential job opportunities elsewhere.

All three say their circumstances are unrelated to Thorpe’s, the county administrator who last week announced his retirement.

A Crystal River man was arrested May 12 in connection with a fight at a concert at Rock Crusher Canyon after allegedly beating another man with a baseball bat. During the fray, the alleged victim’s baby was injured and his pregnant girlfriend pushed down.

Sheriff’s office searching for...

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Kyle Lee Chunn, 22, who is wanted for multiple counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm, fleeing or attempting to elude, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. 

Chunn was last seen in Citrus County on Tuesday. It is possible he has contacts in the Belleview area.
