Larry Salter looks over the paperwork from the county and FEMA regarding repairs to his house west of Crystal River, which was damaged by floodwaters from Hurricane Hermine in September.

If he had his druthers, Larry Salter would rebuild his house to avoid a repeat of what he’s going through right now.

Situated on North Palm Springs Terrace, off Fort Island Trail about a mile west of U.S. 19, Salter and many of his canalfront neighbors were flooded when Hurricane Hermine brought a storm surge in the early morning hours of Sept. 2.

“We had three and a half feet of water in the house,” said Salter, who has lived in the house for 17 years.
