Saul Gilkes, right, carries one of the hundreds of watermelons delivered to The New Church Without Walls food ministry Thursday morning in Hernando. Senior Pastor Doug Alexander said the tractor-trailer load of surplus fruits and vegetables was provided by Farm Share and totaled more than 38,000 pounds. It is one of nine deliveries in the past couple of weeks. Another load of fruits and vegetables was delivered Friday. The food is distributed to agencies that feed those in need over a five-county area around Citrus. Watermelons, fresh bananas, papaya and honeydew melons were delivered through Farm Share.
