This is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I’m very familiar with breast cancer, as my mother had it twice. All three of her sisters had breast cancer, two dying from it as it metastasized throughout their bodies. My mother’s cancer was quite fickle, the second diagnosis was over six years after the first round. She was treated back in the late 1980s and early ’90s, when the primary course of action was radical mastectomies and harsh chemotherapy. She struggled the rest of her life with the disfigurement and limited range of motion after her surgeries.
