Week 3 and everyone is doing great!

We’re heading into another weekend with some great opportunities for exercise! Watch the weather – there’s both breeziness & rain forecast, but not a lot of either one [not like yesterday ... that was a real downpour].

 Saturday activity
Remember that on Saturday morning [February 25], Team Bookin’ It from the Citrus County Library System will be leaving for a fun walk from the Floral City library at 9 a.m. – and some folks are planning a bite at the Shamrock after the walk. Look for the Fitness in Citrus banner & yellow Chronicle sponsorship signs. If you haven’t had a chance to visit the floral City library, the newest in our county system, this would be a good opportunity. you’ll enjoy it!

 Exercise tip
Think about the benefits of something as simple as walking: the American Heart Association tells us that it not only helps you keep your weight under control, it’s a good way to keep your heart in shape, too.
If you weigh 160 pounds, each hour you spend walking at a liesurely 2 mph burns 240 calories. If you pick up the pace to 3 mph, the AHA says, you’ll spend 320 calories.

Although the Fitness Challenge is about fitness, many of us like to watch the calories, too. Here’s a link to a table showing the calorie-burning benefits of different activities: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/SM00109 .

Make exercise a fun part of your day. Here’s a tip from a member of the Classy & Sassy team who works at a school: “Last year I walked the perimeter of the fenced PE area with the students. ... Eight times around the perimeter was 1 mile. Believe me, they had me huffing and puffing at the end of my 15-minute time at break. It was fun with the kids and they really kept me entertained.”

 Nutrition tip
We all know that portion control is critically important. Follow this link to a fun interactive self-test on protion control Be careful on the bonus questions at the end! http://www.prevention.com/portioncontrol/ .
