Daniel ‘Danny’ Accardi, 48

Crystal River

Memorial will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 16 N. 3rd Street, Lake Wales, FL, for Daniel Jon Accardi of Crystal River, who passed away on 4/18/08 and was cremated by the Davis Funeral Home. After service, there will be a gathering at the home of his mother, Sara Aument.

St. Petersburg

COSTON, George R. 76, of St. Petersburg, was called to heaven on May 18th, 2008, to help beautify God’s gardens, after a lengthy illness. George was a member of the Assembly of God Church. He was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, on May 26th, 1931, and came to St. Petersburg with his mother, Eula 73 years ago. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School and joined the U.S. Navy. George retired from the St. Petersburg Police Department in 1973 and was one of the first motorcycle policemen. He earned a degree in Criminal Justice and attained the rank of Sergeant on the police force. George owned and operated Neeld-Gordon Garden Center with his business partner and best friend Rick Golding. He was predeceased by his first wife, Peggy; a son, George Jr.; and his mother Eula. George married his childhood sweetheart Virginia “Ginnie” E. DeBay in 2002 whom he adored dearly and is survived by his beloved wife of 6 years; 2 daughters — Debbie L. Manzano of Sierra Vista, AZ and Linda L. Mills of Tampa, FL; 2 sons — Gregory R. Coston and Jack E. Coston of St. Petersburg; 7 grandchildren — Andrew, Beth, Stephanie, Benjamin, Sancho, Stacie, and Joshua; and 8 great-grandchildren — Jonathan, Liam, Adam, Emma, Luke, Boston, Lilly, and Chase, 4 stepdaughters — Deanna DeBay, Lori Watson, Dorena Bedwell and Valerie DeBay. A visitation will be Wednesday May 21, 2008, from 5 – 8 PM at Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. Orpha ‘Orphie’ Gorham, 81


Orpha “Orphie” Marie Gorham, 81, died Saturday, May 17, 2008.

She was the daughter of Gustave and Mary (Selbach) Koeller and the widow of George Harold Gorham. The Gorham’s moved to Hernando from Miami in 1999.

She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Inverness, formerly a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Miami, FL, Citrus County Crafters Club and the Florida Police Officer Association Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, collecting teddy bears and butterfly pins.

Preceded in death by her husband, George Harold Gorham; son, Gary Gustave Gorham; sisters, Jane Twyford, Henrietta Long and Irene Skelnik; brothers, Leonard Koeller and Edward Koeller.

Survivors include, her son, Wayne George Gorham and wife Gayl of IL; daughter, Mary Ellen Landress and husband Collier of Ocala, FL; granddaughters, Sandra Marie Yaffer and husband Said of Ocala, Mary Lynn Landress of Georgia and Rachel Margaret Gorham of IL; grandson Gregory Gary Gorham and wife Brande of IL; great granddaughters, Krystel Ann Marie Yaffer of Ocala, Kayli Marie Landress of GA and Abigayl Bree Gorham of IL; great grandson, Robert Lee Young of GA; sisters, Shirley Lardas and husband John of IL, June Brink and husband Herbert of Ocala, Diane Vogt and husband Herbert of IL and Dawn Schneider and husband James of IL; brothers, Daniel Koeller and wife Dorothy of Ocala, Arthur Koeller and wife Penny of IL and Robert Koeller and wife Marilyn of IL and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Wed., May 21st, from 4 PM to 6 PM at Fero Funeral Home. Burial will take place on Fri., May 23rd, at 2 PM in Miami at Southern Memorial Park.

Hogan, Robert, 69, of Homosassa, Florida passed away under the loving care of his family and Hernando-Pasco Hospice on Sunday, May 18, 2008. He was born in Oklawaha, Florida, and arrived in the area in 1978 coming from Pensacola, Florida. He was a retired Naval Aircraft Mechanic and Avionics Engineer. He was a Baptist and U.S. Navy veteran of the Viet-Nam conflict. He loved fishing, gardening, and NASCAR racing. He is predeceased in death by son Robert Allen Hogan and brother Harry Morris. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Hogan of Homosassa; son James Hogan of Alexandria, Virginia; daughters Caroline (Joe) McGuire of Springhill, Florida, Twana Heinzman of Lecanto, Florida, and Cherryl (Doyle) Watson of Homosassa. Survivors also include brothers Lanis Hogan of Silver Springs, Florida, and Jerry (Stephanie) Morris of Tampa, Florida; sisters Ruby Dennis of Oviedo, Florida, Barbara McCullough of Ocala, Florida, and Latricia Harris of Homosassa. 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2008 between the hours of 10:00 am and 12:00 pm at Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa Springs Florida, with service and entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hernando-Pasco Hospice.

Edna Huke, 94

Gulf Breeze

Mrs. Edna M. Huke, 94 years old of Gulf Breeze, FL, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Lecanto.

She was born December 4, 1913 in New York City, NY, Daughter of Edwin and Helen (Denhard) Meyer.

Mrs. Huke enjoyed ceramics, and playing Bridge, Rummy and board games. She worked as a retail Department Manager. She was a former resident of Hampton Bays, NY and Stuart, FL. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stuart.

Mrs. Huke was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are 2 sons: George Huke of Gulf Breeze, FL; Lawrence “Larry” Huke of Riverhead, NY; Brother, Herbert Meyer of Myrtle Beach, FL; 3 grandchildren: David, Deborah, and Kimberly; 5 great grandchildren: Brandon, Christina, Robert, Cassie, and Tyler; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Cremation will be under the direction of Hooper Crematory, Inverness.

Lynn Jones, 67

Beverly Hills

Lynn G. Jones, 67, of Beverly Hills, FL, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008, at her home.

She was born March 24, 1941, in East Liverpool, OH, to Herbert and Nova Dell Anderson.

Ms. Jones spent many successful years in the banking industry before retiring in 2002 as a loan officer for the Nationwide Credit Union in Columbus, OH. She was also an active volunteer and blood donor. Ms. Jones moved to Beverly Hills, FL, shortly after her retirement where she continued her volunteer activities, most recently accepting an appointment as Treasurer for Citrus County Memorial Hospital.

Ms. Jones is survived by her companion, William (Bill) Knox of Beverly Hills, FL; her son, Jeffrey Gerace of Dublin, OH; her daughter, Cheryl Bassitt of Dublin, OH; and six grandchildren, Tony Gerace, Tori Gerace, Amanda Gerace, Vincent Gerace and David and Brian Bassitt, all of Dublin, OH. She is also survived by her mother, Nova Dell Anderson and her cousin, Jodie Harries, both of Homosassa Springs, FL. She is also survived by her companion’s family; Brenda and Richard Mossholder and their children, Ashley Farrow and Mike Farrow of Marietta, GA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Anderson.

According to Ms. Jones wishes, a celebration of life service for friends and loved ones will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Brown Funeral Home, 5430 W. Gulf-to-Lake Hwy, Lecanto, FL. The service will be followed by a light supper for friends and loved ones at the funeral home.

Charles Takats, 72

On Saturday May 17, 2008, Charles Joseph Takats, born on July 13, 1935, passed away and is now with his beloved wife Carol Bessinger Takats where they will rest in peace for Eternity. Charles fought a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer and never lost sight of his sense of humor. He was a wonderful husband, dad, pop and friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his children and their spouses; Charles Donald & Bobbi Takats, Robin & Ralph Gibbs, Carlton Kraft and Jolie & Less Little. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Charles Anthony Takats, Kimberly & Ed Lagunas, Matthew Foucault, Candace Gibbs, Elizabeth Little, Glen, John & Nathaniel Kraft and Timothy Fuller along with three great grandchildren. Charles will also be missed dearly by his in-laws, Barbara Buehler, August Bessinger, Bobby & Elaine Bessinger and Paul & Barbara Bessinger. Private Cremation will take place under the direction of Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto, FL.
