Helen Adkins, 69

Crystal River

Helen Pauline Adkins, 69, of Crystal River passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at her daughter’s home in Beverly Hills under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County.

She was born June 30, 1938, to Roy and Dorothy Fausnaugh in Williamsport, Ohio.

She moved to Crystal River 14 years ago from Peoria, Ill.

She was an avid bowler and a fan of both NASCAR and the St. Louis Cardinals.

She was a homemaker who loved camping and family functions and was a loving mother and grandmother.

She has joined her husband of 49 years, George E. Adkins who passed away in August of 2005.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Sheryl Pedroza (Donald) of Peoria, Illinois, Brenda Bousho of Beverly Hills, Florida, Pamela Cantrell (Paul) of Crystal River, Florida, Judith Nagel (Rick) of Warsaw, Illinois and George Lee (David) of Beverly Hills, Florida, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River, Florida.

James Downing, 59


James E. Downing, 59, of Hernando, Florida, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

He was born in Ousley, Georgia.

He was a floor mechanic and an avid fisherman and golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Sue of Inverness; son, Michael of Inverness; daughter, Kelly Beckett of Inverness; brother, Bobby of Clearwater; two sisters, Sheryl Hamilton of Atlanta, Georgia, and Maryann Williams of Homosassa.

Downing Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Spring Hill, Florida, is in charge of arrangements.

Keith Evans, 47

Floral City

Keith Evans, 47, Floral City, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. Keith was born on May 16, 1960, in Palatka, FL.

Survivors include his mother, Joyce Brazeau; fiance, Renee Nichols; sister, Cindy Clark; brother, Rodney Evans; and two sons, Brian and Chris.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the New Hope United Methodist Church of Istachatta. Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness, FL.

Patricia Houchin, 77

Crystal River

Patricia Annette Houchin, 77, of Crystal River passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Hospice House of Citrus County in Lecanto.

Born on November 26, 1930, to Arthur and Hallie Hoffman in St. Petersburg, Florida. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1948.

She moved here 3 years ago after retiring from 25 years of service with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department.

She enjoyed gardening and animals.

She is survived by her sons, Robert R. Newberry of St. Pete Beach and Rande W. Newberry of Homosassa; brother, Steve Hoffman of Wildwood, Florida; and grandchildren, Derek and Chelsea Newberry of Homosassa.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Pinellas County. Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River.

Jane Kane, 87

Crystal River

Jane A. Kane, 87, of Crystal River, FL, died May 11, 2008, in Inverness, FL. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with Rosary presented at 3 p.m., and services will be on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 10 a.m. all at Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in Lecanto, FL, with burial at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, directly following service.

Yvonne Khoury, 85


Yvonne Khoury, 85, of Inverness, formerly of Miami, FL, died on May 10, 2008, at her home under the loving care of her family and Hernando/Pasco Hospice. Yvonne was born on June 20, 1922, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, daughter of Joseph and Matilda Buiez. She was a Catholic.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald Khoury and wife Sissy of Inverness, FL and William Khoury Jr. and wife Vivian of Miami, FL; five grandchildren, Allison Olsen of St. Augustine, FL, Kristin Lestinsky of Inverness, FL, Alex Khoury, Jonathan Khoury and Jacqueline Khoury, all of Miami, FL; and five great grandchildren, Ben, Lauren, Timothy, Andrew, and soon to be born baby Olsen.

Services for Mrs. Khoury will be held on Friday, May 16, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, 2507 Hwy. 44 West in Inverness. Pastor Kevin Ballard will preside.

Henry ‘Johnny’ Long, Jr., 87

Beverly Hills

Mr. Henry Johnson “Johnny” Long, Jr., 87 years old, of Beverly Hills, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, in Inverness.

He was born December 24, 1920, in Mint Hill, North Carolina, son of Mary E. (Helms) and Henry Johnson Long, Sr.

He was a USCG veteran serving during WWII.

He was the owner and operator of the Steak Palace Restaurant on Albermarle Road in Charlotte, NC. He moved to Florida from Monroe, NC, in 1990.

He was Presbyterian by faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn B. Long of Beverly Hills; son, Richard Long and daughter, Mary Jane Cohron, both of Lake Charles, LA; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

MichaelMacDonald, 59


Michael A. MacDonald, 59, of Homosassa died in his home on Friday, May 9, 2008, after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, he spent much of his childhood in New York and his adult years in Pennsylvania before moving to Florida.

He was wounded while proudly serving his country in the US Army during the Viet Nam War between 1967 and 1969.

He was a business major graduate of Catonsville Community College in 1973.

As a sales representative for DJB Heavy Equipment Co., he was an experienced pilot who traveled the eastern seaboard of the US and western Europe.

He was the owner/proprietor of Mike’s Brass Rail in Duncansville, Pennsylvania, before relocating to Florida, where he was the owner/operator of Land Reclamation & Maintenance of Citrus & Orange County in Homosassa Springs.

He was a member of the NRA, the American Legion Post #155 of Crystal River, a Jaffa Shriner of Altoona, Pennsylvania, an accomplished marksman, hunter and builder and a dedicated motorcycle enthusiast.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle MacDonald-Shisler, granddaughters Katie MacDonald-Brandt and Amberly Shisler, great-granddaughters Isabella and Marie, both of Charlotte Hall, Maryland, step-daughter Julie Walters (Troy, Mitchell and Brianna) of East Freedom, Pennsylvania, brother Richard MacDonald (Kitty) and sister Margaret MacDonald, both of Ocoee, Florida, Barbara Finnigan (Thomas) of Glenmont, New York and many nieces, nephews, extended family members as well as many close and dear friends.

Charles William Newcomb, 80, died Sunday, May 11, 2008. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008, with a service at noon at Fero Funeral Home, Beverly Hills.

George Young, 72


George Robert Young, 72, Inverness, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, under the care of Hospice of Citrus County at Citrus Memorial Hospital.

Private cremation arrangements by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness. Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Young was born in Summit Station, Ohio on November 1, 1935, to Anna Kruskamp and Harold Young.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-54 as an occupational soldier in Germany.

He was retired from the Public Utility Commission of Ohio in 1995 as a field investigator for communication for 30 years.

He moved to Ocala in 1997, then to Inverness in 1999.

He was Catholic by faith.

He was a Mason, Past Master of Pataskala Lodge #404 in Pataskala, Ohio, member of the Order of the Eastern Star Wahneta Chapter #235, and Past Sovereign Master Allied Masonic Degrees, Assistant Director Licking County Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine Temple of Columbus, Ohio, York Rite Knights Templar St. Luke’s Commandary #34 Newark, Ohio, Ohio Lodge of Research, Tri-County Travelers, Degree Team Ohio. He was Past Master of Dunnellon Lodge #136, Past Master of Florida Lodge of Research, Master Memorial Lodge #15, Master Fort King Daylight Lodge #389, Secretary of Citrus County Shine Club and member of Valley of Ocala Scottish Rite.

His hobbies included golfing and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Carol Young of Inverness, brothers, Rev. David Young and Rev. Richard Young and James, all of Ohio, sons Robert Young and wife Charline, Greg Young and wife Dianna, daughters Patricia and husband Eric Zimmerman and Kathleen and husband David Watson, all of Pataskala, Ohio, and eleven grandchildren.
