Effie Bowen, 78


Mrs. Effie M. Bowen, 78 years old of Hernando, Florida, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Hernando.

She was born September 6, 1929, in Newark, Ohio, daughter of Oliver and Addie Pearl (Ful-ton) Goble.

Mrs. Bowen was a member of the AARP, Happy Timers, Inverness; Eagles Club, Buckeye Lake, OH; and Druids Club, Newark, OH.

She enjoyed playing cards, crafts, and Bingo.

She worked as a head cook for the school system.

Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Bowen and (7/2/1949); her par-ents and sister, Juanita Rice (2006).

Surviving are 2 Sons: Charles D. Bowen of Hernando, FL; Donald P. Bowen of Seattle, WA; Brother, Perry G. Goble of Spokane, WA; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Barbara Ann Dunlap, age 56 of Floral City, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at her residence un-der the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. Cremation arrangements under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness.

Vera Fitch, 87


Vera Fitch, 87, of Inverness, FL, died on May 7, 2008.

Vera was born June 16, 1920, in Rockville Centre, NY, the daughter of Louis and Mildred Schroeher. She was a secretary for Half Hollow Hills High School in Dix Hills, NY. Vera moved to Inverness in 1978 from Huntington, NY. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando, FL.

Survivors include her husband Francis ?Buddy? Fitch of Inverness, FL, daughters, Penny Martishius of Virginia Beach, VA, and Mary Jo Morgan of Castle Rock, CO, brothers William Schroeher of Whiting, NJ, and Joseph Schroeher of Raleigh, NC, sister Jean Fiske of Toms River, NJ, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2008, at the Heinz Funeral Home, Inverness. Funeral services will be on Monday, May 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Good Shep-herd Lutheran Church in Hernando. Reverend Kenneth Blythe will preside. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness, FL.

Vernon Hibner, 86, of Dunnellon died September 29, 2007, at his residence.

He was born Feb 15, 1921 in Detroit, MI.

Mr. Hibner was an artist.

He came here from Louisiana in 1969.

He was preceded in death by one son.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Lillie Quan of Ft. Pierce; daughter, Valorie Vogel of Homo-sassa, FL; sons, Vance Hibner of Orlando, FL, Virgil Hibner of Tampa, FL, and Verlyn Hibner of Melbourne Beach, FL; grandchildren, Juliet, Justin, Karen, Richard and Tiffany; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Beverly Brydon Marker, age 70, of Dunnellon, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Inverness.

Born March 3, 1938 in Umatilla, FL, she was the daughter of William and Margaret (Wylie) Brydon.

She earned her Bachelors Degree from Fresno State University, Fresno, CA in 1960 and her Master?s Degree from State University of Iowa, Iowa City in 1961.

She was an English Teacher and was appointed to Port Hueneme High School, Oxnard, CA, 1961-62; Carrier High School, Enid, OK, 1962-63; Robinson High School, Tampa, FL, 1963-66; University of Tampa, 1963-64; Macarthur High School, Levittown, NY, 1968-71; H.B. Plant High School, Tampa, 1971-75; Western Connecticut State University, Danbury, CT, 1976-77, Henry Abbott Technical High School, Danbury, CT, 1981-82.

She loved writing poetry and reading.

She was a member of the Gingerbread Poets of Dunnellon FL., The Florida State Poets Asso-ciation; National League of American Pen Women. Her poems were published by the Brook-field Journal, 1983; Feelings, 1996; Poet?s Fantasy, 1997; Creative With Words, 1997; Eclectics!, Good and Bad of Nature Anthology, 1997; Christian Poet?s Pen, 1997; Fireside Anthology, 1998; Folklore, 1998; Smile, 1998.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Dunnellon, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Paul L. Marker of Dunnellon, FL; 2 sons: Christopher W. Marker and wife, Susanna of Sherman, CT; Timothy T. Marker and wife, Evelyn of Dunnellon, FL; Brother, Charles Brydon of Danville, CA; Sister, Anne Brydon Brown of Sioux Falls, SD; Granddaughter, Sarah Marker; and 3 step-grandchildren, Austin Caraway, Olivia Caraway, and Braizer Caraway.

A Memorial Mass for Mrs. Marker will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Dunnellon, FL with Father Kevin MacGabhann officiating. Crema-tion was under the direction of Hooper Crematory, Inverness.
