William ‘Bill’ Ahlers Jr., 69 Philadelphia, Pa.

William B. “Bill” Ahlers Jr., 69, Philadelphia, Pa., died Jan. 24, 2008, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. Kalas Funeral Home, Edgewater, Md.

Joan Beck, 59 Lecanto

Joan Ann Beck, 59, Lecanto, died May 5, 2008 at Spooner Cottage of The Key Training Center. A native of Long Island, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Gladys Beck and a resident of The Key for many years. Survivors include her brothers, Carl G. Beck, Port Jefferson Station, NY; George C. Beck, Inverness; and her sister, Georgia Baum, Inverness. There are also nieces, nephews, and cousins surviving. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 9 at 3 p.m. from the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. Pastor Donnie Seagle of the First Baptist Church of Inverness will officiate. Cremation arrangements will follow.

Doris Gordon, 63 Crystal River

The Service of Remembrance for Doris Elaine Evinger Gordon, age 63 years, of Crystal River, Florida, will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes, with Rev. Kip Younger officiating. Cremation will be under the direction of Hooper Crematory, Inverness. She died Monday, May 5, 2008 in Inverness. She was born Saturday, March 17, 1945 in Andalusia, Pennsylvania, daughter of Charles and Sarah (Tiedeken) Trickel. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Inverness. Ms. Gordon worked as a Technician for Citrus Memorial Hospital for 18 years. She loved being with her family, gardening, making crafts and baking. She loved the beach. She was preceded in death by her father. Surviving are 2 Sons: Kenneth Evinger, Inverness; Russell Evinger, Hernando; 2 Daughters: Barbara Matott, Inverness; Lorraine Fortune, Beverly Hills; her mother: Sarah Trickel, Inverness; 3 Brothers: Charles Trickel, Hernando; Edward Trickel and Mark Trickel both of Inverness, FL; 3 Sisters: Sally Going, Pinellas Park; Carol Rich, DeKalb, TX; Kaye Rickard, St. Petersburg, and 7 Grandchildren. George Hoefler, 59 Inverness

George Hoefler, 59, of Inverness passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. He was born on August 9, 1948 to George Sr. and Ruth Hoefler in Marymont, Ohio. He moved to Inverness 35 years ago from the St. Petersburg area. He was a Master Carpenter and the president of the Citrus County Rod Benders. His interests included fishing, motorcycles, woodworking and camping. He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Hoefler of Inverness, son Matthew Hoefler of Minnesota, daughter Christina Armstrong of Minnesota, mother Ruth Hoefler of Tennessee, sister Sharon Chaltraw of Tennessee and 6 grandchildren. Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River.

William Hulbert, 63 Crystal River

William Homer Hulbert, 63, of Crystal River died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. He was born September 17, 1944 in Defiance, OH and came here 31 years ago from there. He was a member of the Crystal River United Methodist Church. Mr. Hulbert enjoyed his work in the Lawn Maintenance and pressure cleaning business, was a NASCAR fan, motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed playing pool and visiting with friends. He is survived by his wife Janie of Crystal River, two sons Mark Hulbert of Lakeland, Billy Hulbert of Crystal River, two daughters Kathy Dwiggins of Crystal River and Lisa Hulbert of Homosassa, brothers Robert Hulbert, Tom Hulbert, sisters Donna Stites, Sue Sauber and Mary Ann Baker all of Defiance, OH, and six grandchildren. The Funeral Service for Mr. Hulbert will be conducted Friday May 9, at 11 a.m. at the Crystal River United Methodist Church. Private cremation will follow under the direction of Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River. For those who wish memorial contributions are requested to Hospice of Citrus County or the American Cancer Society, envelopes provided by the funeral home.

Carol McCarthy, 76 Beverly Hills

Mrs. McCarthy died on Sunday, May 4, 2008 in Beverly Hills, FL. She was born December 3, 1931 in Chicago, IL. She was a graduate of Calumet High School in Chicago, IL. She was a Major Accountant for Reuben H. Donnelly Company of Riverdale, IL for 17 years. After retirement she started her own business, “Suite Little Things,” she built miniature doll houses and miniature furniture. She participated in grade shows in the Midwest, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska and Missouri until she retired to Beverly Hills in 1994. She is a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Suncoast Senior Bowling League. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin McCarthy. Survivors include: husband, William McCarthy; sons, Thomas and wife Colleen, Daniel and wife Lisa, Timothy and wife Nancy, Dennis and wife Diana; daughter, Kathryn Clark and husband Rick; brothers, Charles West and James West and his wife Joan; sister, Barbara Wittstruck and husband Robert; grandchildren, Erin Duckworth, Maggie McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Nial McCarthy, Liam McCarthy, Ryan McCarthy, Maue McCarthy, Lindsy McCarthy, Alyson McCarthy; great-grandchildren, Kasey Duckworth, Brandon Duckworth, Aeriel McCarthy, Esabella McCarthy, Anna McCarthy; and many nieces and nephews. A mass will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Orbary McKinnon Jr., 50 Dunnellon

Orbary McKinnon, Jr., 50, of Dunnellon, FL died Monday, April 28, 2008 in Orlando, FL. He was born on April 29, 1957 to Orbary McKinnon, Sr. and Betty Davis- McKinnon in Ocala, FL. He was a lifelong resident of Citrus County. At an early age he joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Public schools in Citrus County, FL and was a graduate of Crystal River High School, class of 1975. Participating in football, basketball and track, where he was the 1975 state champion in the 330-meter hurdles. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1978. In the year 1992, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ethel M. Williams. To this union two sons were born, Orbary Randall and Cordero Trayon McKinnon. He is survived by: wife, Ethel Williams-McKinnon of Dunnellon, FL; sons, Orbary Randall and Cordero Trayon McKinnon both of Dunnellon, FL; parents, Orbary McKinnon, Sr. and Betty Davis McKinnon of Crystal River, FL; two brothers, Cornel J. Parker (Debra) of Des Moines, IA and Warren D. McKinnon of Dunnellon, FL; three sisters, Sylvia McKinnon-Wade (Henry), Marunda V. Denson (Eddie) and Tammy P. McKinnon all of Miami, FL; and one granddaughter. Frances Nina “Mrs. JP” Pearsall, 66, Long Island, NY, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at her residence. She was born Jan. 12, 1942, in Long Island, NY, and came here in 1976. She was a former secretary for Dr. Elaine Ward. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, John “JP” Pearsall; sons, George Brisson of Crystal River and Edward Brisson of Homosassa; mother, Frances Tooker of Gulfport; brothers, Larry Tooker and Glen Tooker, both of Long Island, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Amanda Brisson of Homosassa. Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Turco, 83 Inverness

Elizabeth “Betty” M. Turco, 83, Inverness, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Citrus Memorial Hospital. A native of Hoboken, New Jersey, she was born October 8, 1924 to the late George and Marion (Thompson) Allgeyer and came to this area in 1975 from North Bergen, N.J. She was employed as a waitress for banquet catering. She enjoyed her role as a mother and homemaker, was a cooking and baking enthusiast. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons George and wife Margaret Turco and Daniel Turco, all of Inverness; two daughters, Arlene and husband Arthur Baker, Belford, N.J. and Geralynn Turco, Inverness, one sister, Marion and husband Philip Ulliana, Naples, FL, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry on 06/14/1985. A graveside celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness with Fr. Charles Leke as celebrant. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. The family requests memorial donations to Citrus Memorial Hospital or the Citrus County Animal Shelter in lieu of flowers. Chas. E.
