The J.C. Penney store at the Crystal River Mall will close on Aug 3.
“Everyone was made aware last week,” store manager Angela Anderson said on Tuesday.
She added they will be working with the neighboring J.C. Penney stores in Spring Hill, Ocala and Gainesville to try to find jobs for the employees.
“I was surprised by the decision,” she said. “But certainly I can understand and respect it.”
It will be business as normal until June, when the closing process begins.
The announcement about the local J.C. Penney comes just about a year after Sears closed its store at the Crystal River Mall.

J C Penney closing
Too bad another business leaving Citrus County. Local people need to shop local. Seek out small businesses that carry local items, they usually have better customer service as well. What is our county doing to attract new small businesses that will stay??
play monopoly?
Could it be yet another and another Wall-Mart inundating the landscape, desecrating more prime land we are (or not) noticing disappearing in the name of profit? Oh! Chinese profit.
Are all that we will have are abandoned strip malls and memories of great old stores in the center of cities surrounded by smaller businesses that sold "made in America" products? Remember Wards, Grants, Franklin? What was a Nash?
Nice knowing you J.C.

If the senior citizens in this county would allow the young people to actually have a say in this county, we wouldn't be watching this county get more and more boring. There is so much potential in this county. But unfortunately, nothing will ever change. And seriously, why JCPenney!??? =( Belk needs to go away. And I'm so happy that one man finally left with all the ugly rocks and dog clothes.
Store Closing
The biggest problem is that the mall was built in a WRONG location which is in the middle of nowhere where there are no homes near by. Also, it is good for Crystal River citzens. The mall should have build where the new Walmart is in Lecanto which is in the middle of Crystal River, Beverly Hills and Inverness so in that way everyone can go there.
Penny closing
Should have been Belk's that closed!!!
Belk will go as well
Belk will be next.... The economy is still in shambles.. empty stores,,, closed businesses, a Nuclear Waste Storage Facility,,,none of these good ...
