Fire destroys home

DUNNELLON — The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue Division responded to a structure fire at 11:40 p.m. Monday at 2843 W. Dunnellon Road.

Citrus County Sheriff Communications Center advised firefighters en route to the structure the 1,400-square-foot manufactured home was already burned to the ground.

Upon arrival, DeRosa Fire Station personnel went into defensive mode and extinguished the remaining fire by 12:09 a.m. Due to the lack of hydrants in the area, a water shuttle was used.

The property owner and occupant were not at home at the time of the fire. Progress Energy disconnected power to the property.  The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the scene.

According to the fire incident report, 100 percent of the structure was damaged. Damage to the contents was estimated at $70,422.
