Experience Matters, 7/6/14: SCORE Citrus elects new officers

-A A +A
By Dr. Fred Herzog

Every other year, the Citrus County SCORE chapter membership holds its bi-annual elections in May prior to, but not later than, May 31. The newly elected officers agree to serve two-year terms and fulfill the obligations of the office to which they have been elected. The two-year term helps to insure each officer learns his or her duties in the first year to better execute those duties during the second year. Innovations and improvement are always welcome.

Citrus SCORE has established this operational process to insure continuity of the board, membership, SCORE goals and, most important, service to clients. SCORE seeks to manage the chapter with best practices.

‘Passing of the Gavel’

National SCORE has set a fiscal business year for all its chapters starting Oct. 1 ending the Sept. 30 the next year.

The newly elected officers and directors officially take office during a brief ceremony called, “Passing of the Gavel” as of Oct. 1. The new chairman/president is presented with the official gavel, which symbolizes executive leadership of the chapter.

The outgoing chairman/ president then becomes the immediate past chair.

The new officers, under the leadership of the chair and chapter membership, continue existing community relationships, maintain past programs proven successful for clients and initiate new services where indicated.

The new officers are:

Chairman and president: Peter Kranker.

Vice president: Dan Crishon.

Treasurer: Char Waters.

Secretary: Jan Peckne.

Newly elected officers take office effective Oct. 1, 2014, and serve until Sept. 30, 2016. Congratulations to all!

Chapter happenings

The Scholarship Committee headed by Dan Crishon awarded the first SCORE scholarship this year. Plans are under way for the next scholarship award as donations are coming into chapter coffers. Donations should be made to the Citrus County SCORE Chapter 646 to be set aside to honor the leadership of Norm Mangano. Norm was a past president and major contributor to chapter success. He recently passed away. More than 100 people attended a “Celebration of Life” in his honor.

Mangano was an avid supporter of business education and taught at College of Central Florida. The scholarship program has been named The Norman Mangano SCORE Scholarship Fund.

Good news surrounds Bob Braatz, the current president and chair of SCORE. President Braatz has been invited to serve on the Advisory Committee of the College of Central Florida. Bob has an extensive background in several businesses he owned and managed in Florida.

During his term as the chief executive officer of SCORE Citrus, he opened three new counseling offices in Citrus County, supported creation of a scholarship fund and committee and negotiated several revenue generating programs to help SCORE sustain financial security. Braatz initiated many chapter management procedures to insure a successful future in Citrus County.

Innovative leadership with experience matters. Braatz demonstrated critical and “out of the box” thinking. “Fresh ideas” was his leadership mantra. Bob will become the immediate past chair/president on Oct. 1. Citrus SCORE avails itself of all past chairmen/presidents for their experience to support the new chapter leadership. Experience Matters!
