Total Waste of Taxdollars
In addition to being a Total Waste of our Money, it is Malfeasance in office, by all of the Commissioners to fund this Greed Fantasy of Dixie Hollins. Why the Chronicle and the Citizens of Citrus County are not more enraged over this Insanity is incomprehensible. This Fantasy is for a very simple reason a non starter, the water is too shallow to accommodate Ocean Going vessels, yes Barges can manage to get in and out of the entrance but must do so with tide changes.
Doesn't anyone find it outrageous that those who stand to make a substantial profit off of whatever the entrance of the barge canal becomes have no skin in this Fantasy, NONE, NOT A DIME, Hollins and the others who own the property have managed to buy Rebecca Bays Seat and she has suckered the other MORONS on the BOCC into pissing away our money into this Fantasy !
WE THE TAXPAYERS HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF RETURN ON INVESTMENT BY PLAYING THE FANTASY 5, THE ONLY WAY WE WIN WITH THIS NONSENSE IS TO OUST WEBB, DAMATO AND MEEK IN 2012 AND RECALL BAYS & KENNY, then elect Commissioners that aren't in the pocket of the Counties Big Guns.

Why the Chronicle and the Citizens of Citrus County are not more enraged over this Insanity
It could be that the Citrus County Chronicle tends to be slightly bias and your typical Citrus County citizen heads to the voting booth with whatever they are told.
It's pathetic but it's easier that way, people don't have to think for themselves, they just adopt the ideas and opinions of the news media of their choice.

Port Citrus
Port Citrus probably would have been a good idea IF the Cross Florida Barge Canal had actually been completed, and County infrastructure had grown with it. However, in the unlikely event a new reincarnation of the port were to be successful, imagine the added traffic and congestion on US 19. The County was against the increased truck traffic from the proposed rock mine in Levy County, but feels it could absorb more traffic from the Port?
All in all, the Port idea might have some merit, if it were re-conceived as a regional center for sport fishing, or possibly even commercial fishing. Manufacturing probably is a non-starter.

A regional center for sport fishing and/or commercial fishing sounds more compatible with the direction our counties development has taken.
The idea of creating a successful industrial shipping port just hasn't been very well thought out by those wise enough to consider all points involved.
