Open house for Rep. Smith postponed

The open house for state Rep. Jimmie T. Smith’s new office in the Inverness Government Center, previously scheduled for Aug. 15, has been postponed due to the special session of the Florida Legislature.

The new office is still open for business, but the open house will be rescheduled at a later date.

Gardening workshop scheduled Aug. 19

Citrus County Florida-Friendly Landscaping is offering a free gardening pest management workshop from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Gardening practices such as seasonal scheduling, catch-can calibration and selection of plant materials tolerant of droughty conditions are essential to creating a sustainable landscape.

Thorough and infrequent watering produces a plant with deeper roots, promoting drought tolerance and hardiness during the cooler seasons. Overwatering is not a beneficial practice and often inhibits a successful lawn or garden.

Classes are at the Citrus County Extension Service, 3650 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto. Call Steven Davis at 352-527-5708 to confirm participation.

Hydrant work may impact pressure

Citrus County Utilities Division has contracted with R and M Service Solutions to perform flow testing and maintenance of the fire hydrants in Citrus County during the month of August. The company is beginning work in the Sugarmill Woods area.

Customers in the test areas may observe minor pressure fluctuations and/or discolored or cloudy water. This is a common occurrence with hydrant flow testing and does not present a public health risk.

In most instances, these conditions clear up quickly, however running water through all the faucets in your home for a few minutes is recommended and should produce clear water again.

If you continue to have discolored water after flushing your faucets or have any questions, call Citrus County Utilities at 352-527-7650.
