Port Authority meets Thursday

The Citrus County Port Authority will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in Room 100 of the Citrus County Courthouse in Inverness.

The agenda will be available the week of the meeting. For those interested in reviewing the agenda, visit the Clerk of the Courts website: http://citruscountyfl.iqm2.com/Citizens/default.aspx.

Tuesday has universal primary

In the Aug. 26 primary election, there will be a universal primary election in the race for Citrus County Commission, District 4.

Florida is a closed primary state. That means voters are limited to choosing candidates in their own party in the primary election.

However, in the District 4 race between Scott Carnahan and Winn Webb, both are in the Republican Party. Therefore, the race becomes a universal primary and will be decided in the primary election. That race will be on all ballots: Republican, Democrat and non-partisan, allowing all voters to vote in this election.

This differs from the school board or judicial races because those races are non-partisan. The non-partisan races appear on the primary election ballot. If there are more than two candidates, the winner must receive 50 percent plus 1 vote or the race will appear on the general election ballot as a race between the top two candidates from the primary election.

If you have any questions or concerns, call the Supervisor of Elections Office at 352-341-6740.

Veterans Week group to meet

The Veterans Appreciation Week Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee will have its annual Veterans in the Classroom program Nov. 5 to 14, as part of its 22nd annual Veterans Appreciation Week activities.

Coordinated by the Citrus County Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the Veterans in the Classroom program brings living history to the classrooms of the county’s public and private schools, as well as home school groups. Veterans share with students their first-hand military experiences and travels while serving our country in uniform around the world in peace and war.

The model Veterans in the Classroom program was recognized in 2008 with a Florida Education Foundation award.

All interested veterans are encouraged to contact Mac McLeod at 352-746-1384 or cmcleod670@earthlink.net; or, Bob Crawford at 352-270-9025 or baddogusmc@tampabay.rr.com.
