­School supply drive for middle schools

The United Way of Citrus County is collecting school supplies for middle school students. Items needed include three-ring binders, dividers, dry-erase markers, jump-drives of 4GB, highlighters and ear buds.

Those able to contribute can drop off donations by Tuesday at the United Way of Citrus County, on the second floor of the CenterState Bank building, 1205 N.E. Fifth St., Suite A, Crystal River, and the Inverness or Crystal River Chamber of Commerce buildings.

Purple Heart chapter meeting Tuesday

Aaron A. Weaver Chapter 776 Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) will have its bimonthly meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Citrus County Builders Association, 1196 S. Lecanto Highway (County Road 491), Lecanto, a half-mile south of State Road 44 on the west side of C.R. 491. 

All combat-wounded veterans and parents, lineal descendants, spouses and siblings of living or deceased Purple Heart recipients are invited to attend and to become a Chapter 776 member.

Vets Week committee to meet July 16

The Veterans Appreciation Week Ad Hoc Coordinating Committee will have its monthly coordination meeting for Citrus County’s 22nd annual Veterans Appreciation Week at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, in the conference room of the Citrus County Chronicle, 1624 N. Meadowcrest Blvd., Crystal River.

All veteran service organizations are encouraged to send representatives to participate in the planning process. Individual veterans are also welcome.

Habitat for Humanity sets July 19 orientation

Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County will have a homeownership orientation at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 19.

For anyone interested in becoming a Habitat for Humanity homeowner in Citrus County, the first step is to attend a free orientation seminar. You will gain valuable information about qualifications for Habitat homeownership and the steps required to complete the program. Orientations are held throughout the year and are open to the public. As a courtesy, it is asked that small children not accompany parents.

The orientation will be at the Realtor’s Association of Citrus County building, 714 Scarboro Ave., Lecanto. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m.
