­First-time homebuyer class offered July 26 in Lecanto

A First Time Homebuyer’s class is offered by Housing Services, a division under the Citrus County Commission. Participants who attend the entire session will receive a certificate of completion that is required for Neighborhood Stabilization Program and other first-time homebuyer assistance programs. 

The class will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at the Citrus County Resource Center, 2804 W. Marc Knighton Court, Lecanto. To register, call Jen Pollard at 352-527-7522 or Pat Wilkerson at 352-527-7526; or, you may email Jennifer.Pollard@bocc.citrus.fl.us.

The class encompasses preparing your credit and finances, shopping for a home, home inspection, fair housing, available loan products, loan pre-approval and closing. A variety of industry professionals will present to the class and answer questions.

This event is sponsored by Citrus County Housing Services and On Q Financial.

There is no charge, but you must reserve a seat. Lunch will be provided by On Q Financial. Child care is not available.

Chassahowitzka exhibit opening Wednesday in Inverness

The grand opening for the “Changing People, Changing Springs: Chassahowitzka Discovered!” exhibit at The Old Court­house Heritage Museum will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 2. The museum is at 1 Courthouse Square, Inverness.

The event is hosted by the Citrus County Historical Society Inc. A $10 donation is requested per person. Refreshments and beverages will be available.

Oak Village stub-out hearing scheduled for July 10

County commissioners will conduct a public hearing for a street vacation in the Oak Village section of the Sugarmill Woods subdivision.

The hearing will start at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Citrus County Auditorium, 3610 S. Florida Ave., Inverness, to consider a request titled SV-14-01. Commissioners will determine the advisability of vacating, abandoning, discontinuing and closing the existing place potentially used for travel, or any portion thereof, renouncing and disclaiming any right of Citrus County and the public.
