THE ISSUE: Saltwater intrusion taints Cedar Key wells.
OUR OPINION: A reminder why we need to protect water supplies.
Cedar Key residents and visitors are now drinking bottled water because wells that supply the town have been contaminated by salt water intrusion, leaving the water unfit to drink.
Saltwater intrusion occurs when the flow of fresh water is reduced enough for saltwater from the ocean to enter fresh water supplies.
